Masks

These works are considered by the artist as masks. Mai Thuy Ngoc has no formal art education but she comes from an artistic family. Her father Mai Long is a well-known artist of the revolutionary period. Her brother Mai Chau studied at the Hanoi School of Industrial Art. Mai Thuy Ngoc's artistic production includes masks made from coconuts and lacquered art objects. Her works were exhibited at Salon Natasha during the early 1990s.

In the early 1990s, Vu Dan Tan taught various people to produce masks, including his nephew and assistant Mai Chi Thanh, Natasha Kraevskaia, and some children in his extended family. They would first copy Vu Dan Tan’s designs and create new images on their own. Some works by Mai Chi Thanh, Natasha Kraevskaia, and Mai Thuy Ngoc, were exhibited and sold in the Salon for fundraising purpose.
