'I transform the traditional genre by adding contemporary theme into the old medium. This approach has been the centre of my art for more than 20 years. During my elementary school days, I was not keen in drawing comic figures like osme of my classmates with art talent. I was not good at drawing figures then. After I practiced gongbi figure painting, I learned to handle both the form and gestures of human body. Then I need to learn drawing modern clothes for the figures. Soon or later, costu,e became a major theme of my painting. The Architecture Costume is one of the examples, in which I turn modern buildings into human fashion.' - excerted from 'Gongbi Painting' written by the artist
