Catalogue published in conjunction with the traveling exhibition under the same title in Vienna. The exhibition and the catalogue are the outcome of several years of intensive fieldwork and research into the art worlds of Sri Lanka and their historical, socio-political, economic, and cultural background. Based on repeated interviews with about 60 Sri Lankan artists, two video projects recording artistic activities, a substantial image data base, and extended conversations with gallerists, collectors, art teachers, and audiences, the exhibition offers insight into the great diversity of contemporary Sri Lankan art.
