Published on the occasion of Haegue Yang's solo exhibition at REDCAT, Los Angeles in 2008, this publication charts an intensive two-year period of intellectual growth and creative experimentation in Haegue Yang's career.
Clara Kim writes in the foreword, 'This monograph traces the myriad journeys of a group of individuals who have formed a microcommunity with Haegue Yang as its central gravitational force. One such journey begins in Incheon, Korea, where the artist's site-specific installation in a dilapidated house drew Eungie Joo, Doryun Chong, and Douglas Fogle, among others, to this old industrial town. Another journey gets under way in 2006 at BAK in Utrecht, where the aritst began to experiment with sensory devices — including customized blinds, heaters, and fans — to convey a landscape in which the ephemeral and vulnerable are as palpable as the physical and concrete. A third flows like a river with tributaries that pass through Berlin, the artist's adopted hometown, and finally arrives in Bilbao, after a stop in Los Angeles by way of Pittsburgh, Mexico City, and Minneapolis. These parallel journeys converge on the pages of this book, which embodies the encounters, both professional and personal, that have led to the artist's first solo exhibition in the Untied states and this extraordinary collaborative document.'
