Catalogue published to accompany the exhibition UNBOUNDED in September 2009 at Shanghai Art Fair 2009. Works featured in the exhibition are night time cityscapes taken by the photographer in seven Asian cities, including Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Taipei, Tokyo, Seoul and Singapore. Multiple exposures are employed in the image to portray the dark of the night and the brightness of city lights.

'Simon Wan's City Glow series are the tautological photographic equivalent; the multiple exposures in each of these photographs have a repetitive depth that teases out both beauty and aspects of our visual culture.

What we see is both a stripped down minimal (and quite complex) landscape of intersecting lights - imagine layers of bamboo scaffolding using lights of differing intensity - and an x-ray view of a city streetscape where only the hairline "cracks" of light are revealed. We cannot fathom the precise street architecture, the look and limits of individual buildings, but we offered a new interpretation of aspects of each city's landscape from the photographed depth of the signage lights and of faint lit structures that wrap around, or signage protruding from, a building.' - from In Light of, John Batten.
