The exhibition 'Contemporary Art of the Non-Aligned Countries' was a call for deeper understanding among the nations of the Non-Aligned Movement, using the visual arts as a tool to show the many problems of life within different social-historical situations. It was held in 1995, the year of the 50th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia's independence. Participating countries included: Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Chile, China, Columbia, Croatia, Cuba, Egypt, Guinea, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mexico, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Nigeria, North Korea, Oman, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Seychelles, Singapore, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Thailand, Tunisia, Vietnam, Yemen, and Zambia.
