This catalogue accompanies the exhibition 'Contemporary Korean Photographs: 1948-2008' held at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea, from August to October 2008. The exhibition, together with the catalogue, offer a historical overview of Korean photography after the liberation from the colonial rule of Japan and Korean War. During these 60 years in the history of Korea, new possibilities opened up for Korean photographers. Various tendencies during the 1970s and the 1980s have enabled Korean photography to flourish throughout the 1990s. In this exhibition, work of more than 100 photographers is presented in three historical periods: 1948-1960, 1970-1980, and 1990-2008. Artist profiles are provided in the catalogue.
