As mentioned in the preface by Kazuko ENDO, a series of exhibitions entitled ‘Curator’s Eye’ started in 1991 in a biennial style. The Director of Gallery NW House, Kazuko ENDO, choose six curators to curate solo exhibitions of young emerging. The first series was curated by public art museum curators, whereas the second one was done by women curators. Endo observes that 1993 exhibitions curated by women curators articulated three distinctive characteristics. First of all, they were remote from the traditional art forms such as paintings and sculptures. Secondly, many works addressed the sexuality directly and indirectly. Last of all, many works urged the viewers to participate, while questioning their understanding of perceptions. This material includes an essay by each curator, along with images of the exhibition and reference images of artists’ works. Selected biographies are available.
