This catalogue was published by Artoteek The Hague on the occasion of Mella Jaarsma's solo exhibition in 2006. The exhibition is the result of the cooperation with Cemeti Art House in Yogyakarta. Founded in 1988 by the artists Nindityo Adipurnomo and Mella Jaarsmaa, Cemeti Art House plays a very active role in the local and national art world in Indonesia.

Mella Jaarsma established her name in the international art scene in 1999. Michiel Morel wrote in the preface, 'In her work, Mella Jaarsma focuses especially on the question of the formation of an identity, its development and its final shape. In relation to her daily Indonesian environment, she apparently does not look for this identity in its manifestation, but rather in its content, which shows a continuing interest in social and political topics, and then expresses the identity into purports of cultural stratifications linked to backgrounds, history, and tradition. She examines the discrepancy between the rich and the poor, or the hybrid melting pot of religions in Indonesia, as well as current global developments and mankind's unavoidable vicious cycles of murder, medication and food.'

The catalogue features works produced between 2002 and 2006. Artist biography is also provided.
