Enclosure

Excerpt from Inward Gazes: Documentaries of Chinese Performance Art 2012, The Macao Museum of Art, Macau S.A.R., 2012, p. 54: 'In September 2011, we went to Manchester to execute an art work including performance, video, drawing, and object for an art residency for about one month, the title is Enclosure. It became one part of the 'Asia Triennial Manchester 2011.' We drew a Manchester city map with ink on the wall in the exhibition hall of the Chinese Arts Centre, marking those places that we had chosen with red points, and connecting those points with a closed curve which was shaped like a sheep. This was our journey in Manchester. At the same time, we made a 1.5-metre diameter sheep-like woolen ball, full of 'S' foams in it. As for ourselves, we wore the sheep-like woolen costumes, from head to feet, and pushed this big woolen ball to advance — or retrograde — according to the journey of the map. Our gesture was a little bit strange: we prostrated our body with our four limbs touching the earth and kicked the big ball. To be more precise, we crawled backward.'

The performance took place in Manchester, United Kingdom.
