This catalogue is published in conjunction with the First ASEAN Symposium on Aesthetics, Workshop and Exhibition. This year's theme is Tradition, the Source of Inspiration. The ASEAN Symposium is dedicated in promoting the awareness and understanding of the rich heritage in visual arts in the ASEAN region, both traditional and contemporary artistic manifestation. It serves as cultural documentation of paintings and artists related to art works by ASEAN artists, forming a basis for an ASEAN Art Collection in each of the member countries (Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand).
The Symposium was divided into three areas: traditional aesthetics in the visual arts, contemporary expression and strategies developed for the visual arts.
