Gao Xingjian, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2000, studied painting when he was young but did not pursue it professionally until 1983. His painting is characterised by the free flow of ink, and his abstract images convey an impression that is nevertheless representational. The catalogue includes excerpts from an article entitled Return to Painting by Gao Xingjian. Artist biography is also provided.
