Exhibition catalogue of an all-female show at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery, 5 August–15 October 2003. It features a diverse range of works by eight artists and two groups, including performances, interactive participatory events, and mixed-media installations. The central idea of the exhibition is the 'familiar domain' of consumerism and modern life-styles where women are the 'vital source' as consumers. But in 'Girl! Girl! Girl!' these women artists show there is more to spending and consumption, by urging participation, interaction, and greater awareness of social issues by refusing to conform to — but be in control of — the values and styles sold to us. Includes essay by curator Hori Motoaki. Biographies included.
Note: A supplementary foldout leaflet (originally included with this catalogue) featuring installation views has been catalogued separately.
