A collection of interviews conducted by Hans Ulrich Obrist with artists, curators, museum directors, architects, photographers, philosophers, scientists, film-makers, and writers. Apart from illustrating the medium of the interview as an instrument of analysis and representation, Obrist's volume also calls attention to a "growing and widely felt need for content" in art and culture. Described by Lapo Cianchi (in the Foreword) as "an intellectually omnivorous weaver of connections between disciplines and cultures," Obrist reveals an "intense intellectual passion" for getting behind the personalities of his interviewees. There are sixty interviews in all. Asian interviewees include Yoko Ono, Huang Yong Ping, Lee Bul, Sarat Maharaj, and Kazuyo Sejima (others include Marina Abramovic, Christian Boltanski, Gilbert & George, and Danial Buren). An accompanying essay by Michael Diers.
