This catalogue accompanies the exhibition Home: Chien-Chi Chang and Chen Chieh-jen at the Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation in Sydney, and the National Art School Gallery in Darlinghurst from 24 May to 2 August 2014.

'Two pre-eminent Taiwanese artists — Chen Chieh-jen and Chien-Chi Chang — have been invited to consider and address how different the concept of home can be, whether as patients in an asylum, residents in an abandoned apartment block or migrants who have experienced displacement and relocation. Commentaries on human resilience as well as social and economic inequities in contemporary society are consistent strands in the practice of each of these artists and mirrors SCAF’s own interest in art that raises awareness of social issues and creates awareness in Australian audiences.' - from organiser's website.

Three photographic series of Chien-Chi Chang are presented in the catalogue. The Chain (1993-1999) is a collection of 45 portraits of inmates in a mental asylum in Taiwan. In a new work commissioned by SCAF, Side Chain (1993-2014) more deeply explores Chang’s connections with the Lung Fa Tang Temple and its patients. China Town (1992-2011) brings our attention to the plight of illegal Chinese immigrants in New York.

Film stills of a newly commissioned immersive installation Realm of Reverberations by Chen Chieh-jen are included. The installation comprises four major filmic artworks focusing on the Losheng Sanatorium construction site in Taiwan. The short films are complemented by four audio interviews with marginalised women that visit The Wayside Chapel in Potts Point, Sydney, who also share their personal experiences on the theme of 'home'.

Includes a commissioned short story by Deborah Levy; a contextualising essay by Sophie McIntyre, Curator, writer and lecturer at the Australian National University, Canberra, and an artist interview between Chien-Chi Chang and Dr Natalie Seiz, Assistant Curator of Asian Art at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

With biographies of artists and contributors.
