The present publication features Hou Chun-Ming's drawings created between 1999 and 2000, when the artist was paralyzed in bed and experiencing a low point in his life. According to Wu Chiehhsiang, the dim manuscript portrays the artist's frustration, regret and despair. With a singular style and unusual metaphors, Hou Chun-Ming's Journal by Pillow integrates the forms and connotations of fairy tales, myths, religious concepts and psychological dramas. The twenty-one paintings aptly describe all the horror and pain resulting from an abusive relationship. He warns his audience of the tension between love and sexual desire, and the gap between 'being in love' and 'being loved'.
