Kubikukuri Takuzou, or "Hangman Takuzo" in English, was born in Gunma Prefecture, Japan in 1947. He has been practising performance art after moving to Tokyo at the age of 18 and began performing "Kubikukuri" in the 1970s, where he hung himself every day in his backyard (which the artist called 庭劇場 or The Niwa Gekijo Theater in English) for over 20 years since he was 50 years old.
