Luis Chan was one of the most renowned Hong Kong artists in the 20th century. He was a self-taught painter and he had never received any formal training from art schools. In 1927 he took the correspondence course from the Press Art School in London. Since then he has occupied himself in activities of artistic experimentation. This is the catalogue of the exhibition which celebrated Luis Chan’s eightieth birthday. Images of his works are not presented here, however, this publication features an interview with the artist, articles written on his art and a selection of photographs taken from the 1940s to the 1980s. A chronology of his life and his artistic activities is also provided.
