Marking Time, Waiting for the Answer presents the works of 8 young Chinese artists who no longer take as their subject the political content which widely characterizes the western view of the work of their predecessors of the 1980s and early 90s. The artists in this exhibition are rather affected by the new cultural openness, the rapid urbanization and transformation of the society. Through various mediums such as painting, installation, video and interactive media work, these artists explore their own cultural identity and reflect on their contemporary experience of daily life in China. Artist biographies are provided in the present catalogue.
