This catalogue accompanies the exhibition at Total Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul from December 2004 to January 2005. 14 artists from the Balkans, Korea and Okinawa, places which have experienced conflict and war, were invited to present works under the theme of 'refrain'. Curators Lee Young Chul and Ali Akay explain the aim of the exhibition is to 'search not for the geopolitical meanings of the three regions, but for how the conflict and intersection between history and memory, the relation between public and private memory, and the agreement between aesthetic values and cultural-political issues are possible'. Artist biographies are provided in English.
Other participating artists: Seza Paker, Elif Celebi, Tayfun Erdogmus, Susan Kleinberg, Athanasia H. Kyriakakos, Driton Hajredini, Jakup Ferri.
