This catalogue accompanies the 9th Gwangju Biennale from September to November 2012. The biennale is described as an open-ended series of collaborations, resulting in a multiplicity of voices and opportunities for cross-contamination. Curated by a team of six Co-Artistic Directors — Nancy Adajania, Wassan Al-Khudhairi, Mami Kataoka, Sunjung Kim, Carol Yinghua Lu, and Alia Swastika — 'ROUNDTABLE' is expressed through six interrelated sub-themes: Logging In and Out of Collectivity; Re-visiting History; Transient Encounters; Intimacy, Autonomy and Anonymity; Back to the Individual Experience; and Impact of Mobility on Space and Time. The sub-themes circle around one another, overlap, and at times take oppositional views on the role of the individual or of the collective. 'ROUNDTABLE' features over 92 artists, artist groups, and temporary collectives from 40 countries. As an evolving project it includes new commissions and residencies, many leading to process-based and site-responsive installations and performance works.

The appendix contains short texts about each participating artist and their work. A list of exhibited works is provided.

Note: Only Asian artists are listed below.
