Catalogue published to accompany the inaugural exhibition 'Smile' of Hemuse Gallery in Beijing from October to November 2011. The exhibition features works by seven young contemporary Chinese artists in a wide range of media.

'Facing this more and more flatter world which squeezed and infiltrated by the strength of the national economy and polity, we have to ask whether the expression of art and the way of creating artworks can be looked like the same as each other. Among those dazzling artworks, we find that some artists' artworks show a natural temperament ― simple and transparent. The same as the back of the behaviour of smile, they use a humorous attitude towards the troublesome in the life, they use an attitude with playing games towards the "perfect" world of the uniform value standard, they use a simple way of thinking to reflect the fixed concept of being, they use the eyes like the machine to reflect the inside space of the machine in order to find a new way of seeing, they even create a spiritual world filled with dreams of themselves...' - from Exhibition Statement by Apple Keng
