Since the early years Patwardhan's work has focused on the life of ordinary people. Their struggle to live with dignity in an increasingly hostile urban environment makes them extraordinary in his eyes. His depiction of railway platforms, cafes, crowded streets and the industrial wastelands around Mumbai are well known. Over the years Patwardhan's work has evolved in different directions and his concerns have deepened and matured. This book analyses the development of this important and engaging artist, and presents a major part of thirty years of his work. Also included in the book are artist writings and artist biography.
