Sadji was a modern Chinese artist who had studied at the Shanghai Art Institute, the Central University in Nanjing and the Royal Art Academy in Belgium respectively during the 1930s. His paintings had also been exhibited among works by modern European artists including Picasso. Upon returning to China, Sadji suffered from mental illness, but nevertheless continued his artistic endeavour with the help from his family. The paintings presented here offer a retrospective study of Sadji’s development in different stages of his life. Overviews of his development, and descriptions of his works are written by Gu Zhenqing. Biographical information the artist is included. With a preface by Fan Jinzhong.
