Catalogue of joint exhibition by Song Yongping and Song Yonghong in 1997. With brief biographies of the two artists, and Song Yonghong's artist statement.
'As artists who have made their reputation on interpreting the quaint social behaviours of fellow citizens, the brothers Song Yongping and Song Yonghong make perfect observers of the last days of colonial Hong Kong. Song Yonghong first came here for an exhibition two years ago and was disoriented by the pace and ways of Hong Kong life. He has now captured both the bewilderment and the unreality of high velocity Hong Kong in this series of humourous paintings. Brightly coloured and high spirited, these works charm the viewers equally with their tension of suspense and their wit.
Song Yongping presents a slightly different view. His is a vision of Hong Kong that reflects the absurd fantasies of a mainlander whose second-hand impressions are subconsciously infused with mainland Chinese realities. Hallucinatory, these images are flashes of myth about Hong Kong created from across the border.' - extracted from the catalogue's introduction.
