This catalogue is produced to accompany the retrospective exhibition of Chinese artist Zhang Xiaogang at Daegu Art Museum held from June to September 2014.
As the second retrospective ever made for the artist, this exhibition looks into the paintings and sculptures featuring Zhang's most iconic motif, the stylised faces, and their relationship to the human living condition of the contemporary Chinese society. The theme of family, one that is always depicted by Zhang, is also explored in relation to the Chinese state. Notions of nationalism, memory, and China, are discussed in the catalogue essay.
Includes a biography of the artist.
