Bencab, now 66, is one of the most prodigious and acclaimed living Filipino artists. He has moved from Baguio to Asin, Benguet, where he is building his own museum. His Sabel and Larawan series are the most significant to him. Sabel was inspired by a real-life scavenger from his youth in Bambang, Tondo and came to personify poverty and social inequity in the Philippines. Bencab's Larawan series was inspired by his vast collection of old photographs and prints depicting the Philippine's colonial past.
