Jun T. Lai is a Taiwanese woman who started working as an artist in the beginning of the 1980s, and has been working with several media in her long and active career. In this exhibition held in 1992, she showed abstract three-dimensional works made of natural materials such as wood, stone and graphite. One of the authors of the text in this catalogue, Toshiaki Minemura finds her works of the period to be seeking ‘to internalize in an unique body of creative contradiction the interplay between two elements such as light and darkness, sight and opacity, subject and object, intention and accident, idea and feeling, which, in the Laguepie series, was skillfully formulated in the coexistence of the graphite – rubbed reliefs and found objects ’ (from the catalogue essay) The artist’s portrait and biography, in both Chinese and English, are provided at the back of the book.
