This is the catalogue of a solo exhibition of Taiwanese artist Hsia Yan, held at Cherng Piin Gallery from September 28 – October 27, 1991.
The present publication takes the form of assembled cards, with images and description of works in Chinese on each side. The paintings depict gods or divinities taken from Chinese myths and folklore, and they are depicted with the generous and active strokes of Hsia's characteristic style. A total of 12 Chinese gods and divinities are chosen including the God of Treasures, the God of Integrity, the Divine of Marshal, the Divine of Cripple Lee, the Divine of Naughty, the God of Thunder & Lighting, the Divine of Defecting, the God of Achievements, the God of Wealth, the God of Guard (of left and right). A biography of the artist is provided in both Chinese and English.
