Video documentation | Livestreamed Gaming and Workshop | Speculative Collective Board Game

What can cooperative board games teach us about art collectives? How do players set up common goals instead of competing with each other?

Speculative Collective Board Game is a role-playing game for players to act as members of an art collective. The game provokes discussion about sharing resources, problem solving, and decision-making in art collectives. Players roll the dice and respond to cards with prompts or questions about their personal and collective projects, while also coordinating with other players for completing missions. At the end of each round, the players face a challenge that tests their collective dynamics. Speculative Collective Board Game was developed by Gesyada Siregar, Noorlintang Suminar, and Wiratama from Gudskul, a Jakarta-based collective that runs a grassroots school for other collectives.

This event is part of The Collective School, an exhibition and series of public programmes that explore artist-driven and collective models of learning. Developed in collaboration with Gudskul, this project asks: How do artists learn from their peers in a collective? What makes collectivity necessary for survival today? How do collectives remain adaptive and relevant to their respective contexts?

*Please register separately for each event.

*Please note that registration for the workshop is on a first-come, first-served basis.
