Cédric Maridet

Cédric Maridet conducted a residency from November 2009 to January 2010. During his time at Asia Art Archive he explored, documented, and analysed the 'sound-scape' within the physical space of archive.
In his talk ‘TXT.SND.09: selected readings by Cédric Maridet', Maridet presented the first phase of research from his residency in which documents from the Archive, reflecting the various aspects of sound, were surveyed. These texts were then turned into audio texts exploring the different voices of the Archive.
Upon completion of his residency, Maridet created Archival Records, a sound installation at the Archive. Archival Records intends to articulate the Archive’s physical and material space through the medium of sound, and establish a new connection between the Archive’s ‘voices.’ It focuses on the bridging of textual readings (of printed material) and their vocal counterparts, through multi-lingual audio recordings of excerpts from the collection, supplemented by ambient sounds at the Archive. This sound installation not only aims at exploring the idea of the Archive, but also rediscovering the mechanics of sensory experiences and aural cognition through a composed technological mediation of experience.
About Cédric Maridet
Maridet has been based in Hong Kong since 1999 where completed his PhD in media art at the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong in 2009. His research aims at clarifying fundamentals in the heterogeneity of listening intentions in order to frame essential connections for sound art in a holistic, perceptual, and theoretical approach.
His art practice in video and sound (recorded or in real time streams) relays his theoretical concerns on the act of listening taking the form of compositions, installations and audio-visual works.
